Ever Walked On A Lake?

Well we have! We knew that Minnesota was the Land of 10,000 Lakes (really, they are everywhere), but we didn't think about what would happen to those lakes during the long cold winter. They freeze! This is Lake Calhoun which is one of the beautiful lakes right near downtown Minneapolis. We decided to go drive by it because when I was visiting last October it was very pretty and we wanted to see what it looked like in the winter. We were surprised to see that it was frozen and covered in snow, and even more surprised to see footprints all over it and a guy jogging across it! So, what did we do? We had to walk on it! Now, I'll admit that there were signs posted every 100ft or so saying DO NOT WALK ON THE ICE, but it truly was frozen solid at that time and we didn't walk very far (ice is slippery, lol). Now, if walking on a frozen lake isn't a good enough reason to come up here and visit us...I do not know what is! :)

This is where the water (or ice now) meets the land. I'd never seen a frozen shoreline before.

Just look at that! Frozen solid. See the animal footprints going to get a drink? That must have been a disappointed little critter.

We thought this was HILARIOUS. A snowed over lifeguard stand and a boat frozen into the lake. Can you believe this water ever gets warm enough to swim in? I'm thinking these people are crazy...

Check out the little pier. Frozen up just like everything else. In the far distance of this photo you can see the Minneapolis skyline.

Greg and Liam as they are about to step onto the ice. There were human, animal, and even what looked like tire tracks out there.

Ginny and Nana Becca stayed in the car. It was too cold for a baby girl to go walking on the ice.

If that purple and gold jacket Greg is wearing was a Vikings jacket instead of an LSU one, they might pass for native Minnesotans!
