Minnesota State Fair Pt.2
Monday, October 03, 2011 Edit This 0 Comments »Back to the "Great Minnesota Get Together" as these fine people call it...
We spent a huge part of the day at the fair and still didn't see (or eat) half the things we would've liked to. We talked about going back, but it was something like $12 or $13 admission per person and we didn't want to pay that again (especially since we would've spent double that per person on food). Here is some more of what we did...and ate.
Aunt Emily and Liam rode on the little sky tram thing. You can't tell, but it was pretty high off of the ground. She said he wasn't scared and liked it, but she couldn't say the thing for another thing...
Butterflies. Yes, this is a much calmer but still distressed Liam after Emily took him into the butterfly room. It was a big room where there were tons of butterflies flying around, hatching, landing on people, etc. She asked if he wanted to go, he said yes, they left, I settled down to feed Ginny in the shade, and they quickly returned. Liam had tears in his eyes. Emily proceeded to tell us that they stepped into the room and he started SCREAMING and clinging to her. I didn't witness it, but I saw him flip out, no wait, I saw him FLIP OUT over a moth that got into our apartment entrance and I think that must've been a similar scenario. He is not a fan of bugs, not even a little bit. He is terrified of them actually. He was never a fan of bugs, but didn't really pay them any attention until he got stung by some sort of wasp out on our balcony this summer. Now he is on constant bug watch...everywhere we go. So Liam will ride high above the fair on a wire, but do NOT go near him with a butterfly.
This was the big one. This was what we all wanted to try the most. A fried Snickers bar. We were not sure what to expect, but a battered, deep fried, powdered sugar covered Snickers had to be good right?
There they are. Puffy, hot, sugar coated, fried Reese's Cups. The next picture you are going to see sums up our opinion of the fried candy bars....
Hahahaha! I took a picture of Greg taking the first bite of the Snickers. I think he looks confused yet pleased don't you? We all kind of agreed that it was one of the oddest things we'd tasted. Even...disappointing. A Snickers doesn't need to be battered and fried. It just makes it kinda weird. So our verdict was: deep frying candy bars= weird gave us the idea that microwaving a candy bar could be very good. The fried Reese's Cups were borderline gross in my opinion.
Look beyond those 4 good lookin' people and see the massive amount of people down that street. They are like stars, the more you look the more you see! So many people!!!
Fried ostrich. It was crazy good. It was also crazy hot and burned my lip which then opened it up to get a fever blister. I have mixed feelings about that ostrich now.
Ahhhh pronto pups, lemonade, funnel cakes, salmon on a stick, walleye fingers, fried candy bars, cheese curds, ostrich on a stick, lefse (a Scandinavian potato bread), and chocolate chip cookies from Sweet Martha's Cookie Jar. It was a great day, and we didn't even make it to the all you could drink milk, belgian waffles dipped in chocolate, or fried cheesecake on a stick!
