Winter Weather Advisory

Sunday, January 01, 2012 Edit This 0 Comments »
Last night we were put under our first winter weather advisory. That's right, the first one was last night. We were very excited as we feel we have been very cheated with the snow and cold this winter! Temperatures have been consistently 20-30 degrees above the averages (meaning we are consistently having highs of 30 to 40 F) for this time of year and, as of right now, we are 11.9 inches behind in snowfall. Ya. So our hopes were high when we heard that there would be snow showers, blowing snow, high winds, and 0 visibility. Well, our big storm turned out to be one 45 minute snow shower BUT it was pretty heavy so that was fun. Unfortunately it rained after and sort of washed a lot of it away. What a bummer of a winter so far :( We've even read that they are having to cancel winter events up here because of the warm weather. No outdoor ice rinks, no sled dog races, so disappointing.

Anyway, here are some pictures from November when we thought winter was about to start.

Yep, it was 12 degrees that morning! We planned to do a whole bunch of these pictures with the scenery changing behind us and snow getting increasingly thicker but there hasn't been much snow and the only other time temps have been this low, Greg was in Boston so no one could take my picture!

Everyone had to bundle up to go out for anything.

These next pictures are from the first snowfall back on November 19th. The above is the sleet starting.

Waiting for it to come!

Sleeting

Still only sleet.

Ginny watching.

Lovely snow!!!

Now, you might ask where Liam is in these next pictures. Well, he was afraid of the snow the first time and refused to go out in it. I think it was because he had only heard us talking about how scary it would be to drive in and how we needed to stock up on supplies etc. Once I realized that we started talking about how fun it was and he went out and played the next (and only other time before last night) time. We couldn't get him to come in he loved it so much. He was on the couch the other day when we were watching the weather and with tears in his eyes he said, "Mama, when is it gonna snow? You said it would snow. I like the snow." It was pitiful.

Ginny loves the cold weather. It doesn't seem to phase her.

She was very patient with me while I took pictures.

The wind was blowing snow in her face poor baby!

My favorite snow angel.

So cozy inside watching them play.

It snowed lightly for several hours and we managed to get about 2 inches that day. Hopefully there will be many more pictures like this to come! Oh, and Happy New Year to you all!!!
